Channelling allows access to information that falls outside of our senses. By using channelling techniques it is possible to gain wisdom and insights from different realms to aid our spiritual growth, or satisfy our curiosity. Information may be channelled in a number of ways, and we will be taking a look at these shortly. In recent years, channelling has become more acceptable and much easier to accomplish. As we evolve, our spiritual vibration resonates closer to the source, and the gap that a channel must bridge is getting smaller and smaller.
When you channel a spirit, you will want it to be of the highest possible vibration. There are those that work for the family of light and those that work for the family of dark. We tend to attract to ourselves spirits that have similar energies to those that we put out, so it is important to come from a position of love and truth.
On occasion, for whatever reason, you may feel the presence of a negative spirit or energy. It is useless to communicate to such an entity as the information that they will deliver is very unreliable and often misleading. Negative spirits are often mischievous and can be a nuisance if they hang around, effectively ruining your session.
There are many rituals that people use to protect themselves, and it is important that you have something at the ready in case you ever need it. The Kodoish mantra produces a vibration that creates a sacred space around you, it is impossible for a low vibration 'negative' energy or spirit to exists within this space so they are forced to retreat. You should use this mantra whenever you practise any form of channelling to cleanse the area of negative energy.
The words of the Kodoish are not important, it is the vibration that the sound produces that creates your sacred space. It is therefore much more powerful if you say it aloud rather than simply thinking it to yourself. Repeating the Kodoish three times over with intent and focus will ensure that your space is free of all negativity. it goes like this...

ADONAI SABAYOTH!
Literally translated it means, 'Holy, holy, holy is the lord of hosts!
Pendulum dowsing is a simple way to introduce your conscious mind to channelling. As you gain experience you will develop the ability to trust the messages that you receive and this will prepare you for the more advanced channelling methods. To begin you will need to make a pendulum, this can be something as simple as a washer tied to the end of a cotton thread, as long as it can swing freely in all direction this is all that is required. Next, take a piece of paper and draw a large circle on it. Dissect the circle into four equal quarters by drawing two straight lines that run through the centre.
Hold the pendulum weight over the centre spot, about an inch above the page and begin to swing it up and down along the vertical straight line. As you do this repeat the word, 'yes' over and over. Next, swing the pendulum along the horizontal line and say the word, 'no'. This technique programs your pendulum so that you are able to use it to answer questions. You should also program, 'I don't know' and, I do not want to say' by swinging the pendulum clockwise and counter-clockwise around the circles edge respectively. You can actually program your pendulum with any response you desire, but these usually suffice for most questions.
Once ready, centre yourself and take a few deep breaths. Hold the pendulum over the centre spot, about an inch above the paper and ask your question. Have your arm unsupported, so don't rest your elbow on the table as this can prevent the motion. Now wait for the pendulum to answer your question, it's as simple as that!
The swinging of the pendulum is controlled by subtle subconscious movements in your arm, you will not be able to consciously detect these but they are certainly there. Your subconscious controls all the muscles of your body with incredible dexterity and precision. It also has access to a wealth of information that is beyond your conscious awareness, it is from here that your answers are obtained. Depending on your beliefs you may choose to accept that the answers are simply hidden in your subconscious mind and this system allows you access, a little like hypnosis. Or, you may prefer a more esoteric approach and believe that your subconscious mind has a direct link with your higher self, your soul, the universal consciousness, akashic records, or indeed God. Whatever the source, this is a simple system that is accessible to everyone. Try it for yourself and see what the pendulum can reveal for you.

Perhaps the most famous of all channelling tools is the Ouija board (sometimes referred to as the talking board). Ouija boards have suffered very negative publicity, and are often depicted in movies for satanic worship. This is completely unjustified, a Ouija board is simply a tool, and like all tools it is the responsibility of the user that determines the outcome.
A typical Ouija board includes the letters of the alphabet, numbers 0 to 9 and the words, 'yes', 'no', 'hello', 'goodbye' and a question mark. Aside of the board you also require some form of pointer. There is nothing mystical or magical about a Ouija board, it is simply an output that enables you to decipher channelled energy. You can easily make your own board using simple materials. A poster frame is very useful for creating a board, as you can simply print out the letters, cut them out and arrange them under the Perspex until you have a design that is practical, and with which you are comfortable. This saves a lot of time and effort drawing! You can use an upturned glass as the pointer and a little polish will ensure that it can move freely across the board.
Once you have your board you need to know how to use it. But before we get into that, a few words of caution. As mentioned, the board is simply a tool, it is your intention that affects the outcome of a session. If you are messing around, you will attract an entity with similar energy to that which you are transmitting, and they will mess around too. When spirits mess around humans tend to get scared! Another point to bare in mind is that you will very probably not be communicating with a benevolent master, but a discarnate entity that was once human. Now this means that they are likely to posses human qualities, which means that they are perfectly able to lie, and could make mistakes. So don't blindly accept everything that you receive, if it does not feel right for you, let it go.
As with all channelling the more you practise the better you get, so always ask for the highest possible source that you are able to understand and as the weeks go by you will notice that you are moving up through a hierarchy of wisdom.
It requires energy and intent to be successful with a Ouija board so before you begin a session you should go through a ritual that will help to focus all of those taking part. Some people like to say a prayer, others call on the elements. What you do doesn't matter, what matters is that it has meaning for you and that it helps to focus your attention and mentally prepare you to take the session seriously. When you are focussed, connect hands and imagine your energy flowing around in a circle. One person should verbally direct the rest of the group during your preparation. Take as long as you feel to build up this energy and then open your crown chakra and allow white light to enter from above (for information on chakras take a look at the chakra section). Next you gently open your heart chakra and visualise energy arcing out to the glass at the centre of the board. Now break hands and have everyone place a single finger on the bottom of the up turned glass. Fingers should be placed reasonably firmly but not too much as to restrict the glasses movement.
From here have a single person ask questions, as too many people talking can become very confusing. You will also need to record the answers so one person should have a pen and paper at hand.
The nominated questioner should state in a clear voice, 'We seek communication with a being of the light, is there anybody there?'. After this simply wait for a reply. If you receive no reply after a few minutes ask again. As the communicating begins the glass will move around the board answering your questions. It is good practise to ask questions that can be answered yes or no as this greatly increases the speed of communication. As entities come through, you can feel their presence, some feel stronger than others, and you soon develop a definite impression of each individuals personality. Always ask for a name when you meet a new spirit and welcome them to your circle, thanking them for their assistance.
To end the session, thank the spirit and say goodbye. If the glass does not automatically move to goodbye on the board move it there yourself.
There are many different characters that you are likely to meet during your Ouija sessions, some are more knowledgeable than others and some are a plain nuisance. If you receive any information that you find upsetting it is likely that you have connected with a low energy mischievous being. Higher beings will never leave you feeling bad. One of the ways to verify the integrity of the communication is to ask a question three times, it is unusual for a entity of low vibration to be able to lie consistently. It is also important to remember the golden rule, to only take away what you feel is right and let go of everything that does not resonate with you. If it upsets you it is very probably not true, so simply let it go.

Automatic writing is a very useful tool for accessing information that is beyond your conscious awareness. Hypnotists often use this technique to recover information from patients that would otherwise cause them pain. Richard Bandler, founder of NLP, used automatic writing to allow a rape victim to reveal details of her attackers to the police without having to relive the traumatic experience. He suggested that her arm would make notes or draw pictures without her conscious involvement, her head would be unable to turn and look at whatever she was writing and during the process, the rest of her would tell Richard about the best film that she ever saw. The young woman was able to record a registration plate number, a house address and even draw accurate pictures of her attackers faces during the session with no discomfort at all.
She had complete amnesia for the incident and this remained throughout the session. Conventional therapy would have regressed the woman to the day of the rape and required that she relive the experience and report what she could see. This would have been a very painful and unnecessary experience for the woman and it is unlikely that she would be able to draw her attackers faces using such a method.
This demonstrates how useful automatic writing can be when communicating with our subconscious. It is also a valuable tool for communication with other entities and spirits. You would require the same preparation as given in the Ouija section above. Approach this area with love and you will attract a being of the light.
To begin, have a large pad within easy reach and hold a pen loosely in your hand. I suggest that you avoid permanent markers for this exercise as you will be entering the trance state, so you run the risk of ruining your furniture if you are not careful!
Allow yourself to relax completely and focus on your breathing. Breathe slowly using connected breathes and comfortably fill your lungs by breathing from your abdomen. Allow yourself to drift into a pleasant trance state and imagine that your arm is being controlled by a higher wisdom. Allow control of your arm to pass over to this intelligence and welcome it. If you feel any negative sensations then command that the spirit leave and use the Kodoish mantra given at the top of this page.
To get your hand started begin writing random words and sentences. If the flow stops, simply use you intuition to select a letter that will start the next sentence, leave a space and begin again. Do not look at what your are doing and allow it to flow without conscious interference. some people prefer to use their non-dominant hand for this exercise, experiment and see what works best for you.
Stay within your trance state for as long as you feel necessary and only look at the page when you return to fully waking consciousness. You may find that you have drawn something or written a message. Some people actual write messages in a language that is unfamiliar to them, this can also happen when using your voice to channel as you will see in my channelling experiences given below.
If you can touch type, then why not use your keyboard to practise automatic writing? This is a fantastic way to keep a record of your sessions and it it far easier to read than hand written messages. The process is the same as the conventional method, simply relax into trance with your hands rested on the keys and begin typing. Have your eyes closed during the process and only look at what you have written at the end.
When I began doing this exercise my first few sessions were nonsense, but within days I was writing the same words over and over, these had great personal meaning to me at the time and helped me evolve spiritually by highlighting areas that were subconsciously blocking my growth. I entered the trance with spiritual growth as my goal so the messages I received were in relation to this. Your intent is very important, if you want information on a certain area or topic then concentrate on this and your answers will come. If you would rather leave yourself open to whatever presents itself then still your mind and simply allow the text to flow.

I used to spend a lot of time trying desperately to connect with some higher being, so that I could channel spiritual wisdom, with little success. Looking back, it now seems as though I was trying a little too hard, perhaps pushing away what I wanted because I wanted it so much (you may find the creating your reality section interesting for more on this). It wasn't until I was completely relaxed that I actually had my first channelling experience.
My initial experience was also perhaps the strangest. It all started during a rather bizarre dream. In my dream I was in my living room with my partner and a close friend, the three of us regularly meet to discuss spiritual matters, and the dream did feel extremely real and natural. I noticed that as we continued our discussion that I could sense a ball of energy forming just to the right of my head, I did not mention it to the other two, and we continued chatting as the energy seemed to get stronger and stronger. After a few moments, my partner, Natalie, noticed the ball of energy, quickly followed by Robin (our friend). They could both see it hovering next to me, exactly where I could sense it, although I could see nothing at all. I reached up my hand and inserted it into the orb of energy, I could feel a very distinct change within this localised area. After playing with this sensation for a while I became aware that the energy was beginning to flow into my arm. As I noticed this Robin and Natalie confirmed that they could see it too. The energy continued to move along my arm and into my torso. The sensations that were flowing through my body as this energy gently made its way up through my chest were extremely euphoric. At this stage I could feel that it was beginning to take control of my body and I felt as though I was being eased out. I felt very calm during the entire experience and continued to observe as the energy moved up into my face. At this point I blacked out within the dream for a few moments as I handed over control to this wonderful energy.
I then became very aware that I could hear a voice. I could not make out what the voice was saying but it had definite volume. I realised at this stage that I was dreaming, but the voice sounded as though it was not within the dream. I remembered that I was in bed and very much expected the dream to become lucid. Instead I awoke.
When I awoke I was no longer in my body, but hovering next to myself. My body was sat bolt upright in bed and someone was talking through it. I could not recognise the voice, nor the language, it did not sound like anything I had heard before but it did distinctly sound like a language, I have witnessed people speaking in tongues and this was something very different. The voice was very dominating and rather loud. I noticed that my partner was still asleep next to my body in bed and was worried that the voice might wake and scare her. I re-entered my body and pushed the entity out from within. It was not a difficult thing to do and the entity vacated my body willingly.
I was reading a lot about channelling at the time and believe that this is what attracted the experience to me. I bought a small sound activated tape recorder after this experience and left it next to the bed, hoping to be able to record this unusual language, but the entity never returned.
Since this initial experience I have met with a number of guides and spirits and had the fortunate opportunity to channel information that has helped my spiritual development. I no longer pursue channelling the way I used to because I came to the realisation that their are many people that are far better at it than I am! I have accepted that channelling is not my purpose and leave it to those gifted individuals such as Jane Roberts and Barbara Marciniak to bring in this much needed information.
You may have a strong desire to develop as a channel yourself. Whether this is solely for your own development and curiosity or to bring wisdom to others. Channelled books not only include a wealth of information that will greatly enhance you spiritual growth, they also subtly program your mind to accept that channelling is possible, and that people, just like you, are doing it very successfully. For a long time I would only read material that was channelled, as I believed that it had so much more to offer than something that had been created by a living human. As humans, we are only able to write what we have learned, and I have never really trusted the conventional methods of learning enough to accept it's findings. Not only do we suffer from inaccuracies in our understanding of reality, we are also biased in our opinions. By stepping outside of these constraints we are able to learn about the true nature of reality from those in the know, rather than accepting educated speculation based on what we think we know.
I am a firm believer that when the student is ready the teacher will appear, and Seth is an eloquent and informed teacher. Many years ago I marched into my local library and walked straight to the metaphysics section, I had read most of the section already, having always been fascinated by the subject. I would normally spend some time browsing a section and reading a few pages here and there before making a selection, but this day was a little different.
I immediately plucked a heavy volume from the shelf and was at the library checkout within seconds of walking through the door. It wasn't until I was out in the street that I looked at the title, 'Seth speaks: the eternal validity of the soul'.
Seth speaks is not your ordinary book. In late 1963 a young author, Jane Roberts and her husband, Robert Butts, began experiments with a Ouija board. The board spelled out messages that claimed to come from an entity called Seth. Within weeks, Jane began to channel this entity, allowing it to speak through her entranced body whilst Robert took notes.
In 1970, Seth decided to write his own book. The book was dictated in its final draft. Seth continued to produce astounding in-depth wisdom through Jane and Robert for the following ten years. Many believe Seth to be the greatest metaphysical teacher of our time. The knowledge contained on even a single page of any of these titles is, and will always be, nothing less than incredible.
I found Seth (or should I say Seth found me) at exactly the right time. The information that the Seth material contained was exactly what I was looking for. The insights and wisdom that I learned through Seth increased my spiritual development tremendously. Seth comes from a realm outside of the constraints of time and the wisdom that he has to share is as powerful today as when it was first recorded over 30 years ago. Sanaya's books are an incredibly practical set of workbooks that are specifically designed to speed your spiritual growth. They come from Sanaya's and Duane Packer's guides, Orin and Daben.
